Thessaloniki sets tributes
Greece's Thessaloniki Film Festival, slated for November. 4-13, will screen tributes to American indie producer-helmer Sara Driver, Danish new wave filmmaker Ole Christian Madsen, Italo helmer-scribe Paolo Sorrentino and Greece's Constantine Giannaris, named a maestro of "new queer cinema." Alongside five photos including Jim Jarmusch's "Stranger Than Paradise" and "Permanent Vacation," each of which she created, Driver will show "You Aren't I," her very own film in line with the work of Paul Bowles. Pic was thought lost for many years until a duplicate she'd delivered to Bowles in Tangier appeared after his dying. Madsen can have seven photos spanning 14 years, including Dogma film "Kira's Reason: An Appreciation Story" and the first comedy, "SuperClasico." Sorrento will screen Sean Penn starrer "This Should Be the area,Inch together with four other lush character studies, including 2008's consider the corrupt administration of Giulio Andreotti, "Il divo." Gianarris' prolific work is going to be repped by 17 photos, many shorts shot on 8mm, that examine identity, alienation and intolerance.
